Rob’s Quick Review: World War Z

World War Z on Cinedraft.com
Letter Grade:

The Good:

Individual sections are interesting enough to be short films of their own.
Third act really helps the film, even if it can't fully save it.

The Bad:

Disjointed and lacking in narrative payoff.
Fast zombies aren't zombies.
The spread of a contagion that takes 12 seconds to "zombify" someone is epidemiologically dubious.

Cast & Crew:

Director: Marc Forster
Writers: Matthew Michael Carnahan, Drew Goddard, Damon Lindelof, J. Michael Straczynski
Stars: Brad Pitt, Mireille Enos, Daniella Kertesz, James Badge Dale, Fana Mokoena, David Morse, Pierfrancesco Favino

Rated PG-13 for intense frightening zombie sequences, violence and disturbing images

That being said, World War Z is better than it has any right to be, especially given its troubled production history. (The last third of the movie was completely scrapped and re-shot.) As pure survival horror/action it’s not horrible. (more…)
