Fair warning, don’t pay too much attention to the letter grade on this one, your enjoyment of This Is The End is going to vary greatly depending on your taste. It’s ridiculous, cheesy, and over-the-top, but it works a lot better than I expected it to.

The actors play versions of themselves here. Jay Baruchel and Seth Rogen are best friends who have drifted apart after Rogen moved to Hollywood and Baruchel stayed behind in Canada. Rogen has made friends with James Franco, Jonah Hill, Craig Robinson, and Danny McBride (to the extent that anyone can be friends with McBride) and Baruchel is threatened by this. Rogen tries to bring them all together at a party at Franco’s house while Baruchel is in town. Things at the party don’t go well, and THEN the apocalypse happens. The worthy are raptured up into Heaven, which leaves the unworthy (including everybody at the party) to be tormented on Earth. The group holes up in Franco’s house to avoid the raging fires, giant sinkholes, and marauding demons. (more…)
New Trailer: This Is The End
New International trailer for This Is The End, now with more Emma Watson. From the writers of Superbad and Pineapple Express: Hollywood celebrities play “themselves” facing the end of the world in LA, and they are utterly unprepared for it. Starring James Franco, Seth Rogen, Paul Rudd, Jonah Hill, Jay Baruchel, Danny McBride, and Craig Robinson, with cameos from many more stars.
Red-Band Trailer: Rapture-Palooza
Craig Robinson has been a very busy man apparently. Peeples this month, This Is The End in July, and now Rapture-Palooza in June. In Rapture-Palooza he plays the Anti-Christ and Anna Kendrick and John Francis Daley are on a quest to defeat him. Also stars Ken Jeong, Rob Corddry, Tom Lennon, Ana Gasteyer, and Paul Scheer. Written by Chris Matheson (Bill and Teds’s Excellent Adventure and Bogus Journey) and directed by Paul Middleditch.
I was actually surprised how funny I found the trailer.
Rapture-Palooza is scheduled for a June 7th release.

Summer Movie Preview: June
It’s time for the next installment of our summer movie preview, this time we look all the way into June, 2013. “Zombies”, and Monsters, and Shakespeare, oh my!
The Internship
Release Date: June 7th
Synopsis: Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson get laid off and enter an internship program at Google where they must compete with younger, smarter interns for a job with the search giant. Also features Rose Byrne, B.J. Novak, Josh Gad, and Aasif Mandvi. Directed by Shawn Levy (Real Steel, Date Night, and the Night at the Museum franchise).
Our Thoughts:
Rob: I have a feeling that, for better or worse, you’re going to get exactly what you expect out of this one.
Jennie: I hope this movie is funnier than the trailer suggests. Also, am I the only one who thinks it’s strange that the old guy in the wheelchair knows who Charles Xavier is but they don’t have any clue?
Dave: I got to imagine if you’re an old, bald, professor in a wheelchair, you hear the reference from time to time.
Dave: I think the trailer looks funny enough. I generally enjoy the combination of Vaughn and Wilson, but I foresee waiting to see this one on on DVD. Looks like it may be the type of movie that shows you the funniest stuff in the trailer…but i guess you never know.
Nicki: I love this team. They could read the phone book and make me laugh. Just the scene of “What? What?!” alone, makes me want to see it.
Weekend Preview: This Week’s New Films
We have two new movies opening today. Baz Luhrmann’s The Great Gatsby should be pulling in most of the Box Office, but Peeples is also looking for a few of your dollars. (more…)
Summer Movie Preview: May
Summer movie season is upon us with the release of Iron Man 3 this Friday, so the Cinedraft staff felt now would be a good time to take a look at what is coming up this summer. We start out with what’s coming out in May…
Iron Man 3
Release Date: May 3rd
Synopsis: Robert Downey Jr returns for another go-round as Tony Stark as he faces off against Ben Kingsley’s Manderin. Shane Black directs, and this will get Felix exceedingly excited. Also stars Gwyneth Paltrow, Guy Pearce, and either Don Cheadle or Terrence Howard, depending on how the coin flip turned out this time.
Our Thoughts:
Rob: This will be the real kick-off of the summer season. I’m not completely sold on Kingsley as the Mandarin, but I read that after seeing the Iron Man 3 finale Joss Whedon was upset because he didn’t know how he’d be able to top it for The Avengers 2, so expectations are pretty high.
Dave: I’m excited for Iron Man 3, I really am. I don’t doubt it will be a well made action film filled with funny Robert Downey Jr. one-liners. I suppose my only real worry about this film would apply to all Post-Avengers Marvel Universe movies… If the bad guy in Iron Man 3 is such bad news, why not just call in the rest of the Avengers to easily defeat him? Did they all have plans for the weekend that they couldn’t cancel? Seems like the conflict in this movie could be resolved by having the Hulk go in and slap Ben Kingsley around for a few minutes… problem solved.
Jennie: I am really looking forward to this movie. I think Robert Downey Jr is great and I generally have liked the Marvel movies over the last few years (not Ghost Rider of course). I like Ben Kingsly a lot and his voice sounds kind of awesome in the trailer, but I’m not sure how it will work with him as a action movie bad guy. I have no doubt that it’s going to be an entertaining movie. (more…)
